Pitch Pine

A strange type of north American pine grows all year round along the path on the Hřeben hill. It is the pitch pine (Pinus rigida). The species´ trunk will catch the visitor´s eye because it is covered in large, thick, irregular plates of bark, short shoots, needle fascicles or additive sprouts. It originates from northeastern North America where it inhabits sandy or rocky nutrient-poor soils and even marshes.
