Rhododendron smirnowii is a rhododendron native to the Caucasus with a distinctive whitish felt covering on the underside of the leaf and light pink flowers turning to dark pink. It is an evergreen species, fully hardy . This specimen was used by Professor Scholz as a basic starting cultivar for hardiness in his breeding work.
