Průhonice Magnolia

Close to the path crossing the Peony lookout, the visitor shall find tall trees of large-leaved magnolias. They are a crossbreed of the American umbrella magnolia and the Japanese bigleaf magnolia (Magnolia tripetala x Magnolia hypoleuca). The crossbreed was bred in the 1950s in Průhonice and is called Průhonice Magnolia (Magnolia x pruhoniciana). When looking at the tree, visitors will immediately notice its huge, up to 40 cm long, entire leaves. In the second half of May, large wide white flowers appear. They can reach up to 20 in diameter and have a very distinctive aroma. In autumn, pinkish-red cone-shaped aggregates appear and the leaves turn into shades of bronze.
