Eastern Black Oak

Behind the bridge and below the Alpine Garden, a glamorous solitary tree grows – the Eastern black oak (Quercus velutina ). It will capture your imagination at first sight with its distinctly lobed leaves, large trunk, and beautifully coloured foliage in the fall. This individual was planted here in 1923.
